Today Amy Smith-Schwartz spoke at “Presents,” a ceremony where all the new members of each sorority at Cal Poly come, along with their families, and are presented as the new members of each house. Amy gave a speech about Murph and how the greek community has really come together to support him and his family anyway they can. It was very moving. The Amy and some of the other sisters stood at the back of the auditorium with when everyone was leaving and collected donations from the family members. In about a 15 min time period, they had collected exactly $500. It was an amazing site to see.
For those of you who are Cal Poly Students, there will be J. Murph wristbands available Thursday, October 9th from 11am-12pm in the UU during UU hour. Each wristband is $5.00…So make sure you come by our table and purchase a band for yourself or simpily just make a donation to Murph’s family! and on behalf of the Murphy family, we thank you for all the love and support you all have shown and given Murph and his family over these past 2 1/2 months. See you all tomorrow!

Today was the first day of sorting and organizing all the orders that came in on the web site in the last 24 hours. Thankfully we tried to get word out to every at SLO to hold off on getting their wristband until the satellite distribution center can be opened. Both Amy Smith-Schwartz and Bryan Collings are heading up the SLO team. Without the rush from SLO we still ended up send out 51 envelopes of wristbands. I have a thermal postage printer on order but it has not yet arrived. Eager to get these wristbands out into the wild, I recruited the next best thing, my husband Brian (pictured). If you would like to set up a distribution station, let us know. It costs $1.17 to mail just one wristband so if we send you a bunch and you want to sell them at your church or school, more profits come to the project.
The first wristbands went out on Friday. The excitement is palatable. To facilitate the distribution to all of John’s friends at Cal Poly, a satellite distribution and fundraising station is being organized in SLO. They should be there and ready to go by Thursday.
Amazingly, the wristbands arrived two weeks early. We hope to have the site live this weekend.
Motivated by John’s hard work, a number of his friends banded together to create a wristband for everyone around the world to wear united in support for John. The wristbands are navy with white letters spelling “J.Murph”. They arrive mid-October and will be sold to raise money for John.
